Dragonflies and a Red-and-Black Froghopper (?)

Four-spotted Chaser - MVCP Boardwalk

Hairy Dragonfly - MVCP Sensory Garden

Two photos of what appears from a brief Internet search to be a Red-and-Black Froghopper (?) which was near the railway line between the MVCP and Rookery. (On the MVCP side...) Anyone know if this is a common bug in the county...? Photographs by Martin Green.

This is Cercopis vulnerata, it used to be a common plant hopper when I used to live in Beds. I found one in early May in Fineshades Woods, Northants. Vic Arnold

This is certainly Cercopsis vulnerata. It is undoubtedly common in the County and I personally have records going back to 1970, though ironically I have been unable to trace any published records for it! I am currently collecting together records of all Homoptera (and other groups of Neglected Insects in Beds) with a view to publishing County Checklists. See my articles in the Muntjac and keep sending in all those records. Thanks. Alan.
