It's only taken me four years to seen one of these things on the ground at Chicksands. Purple Emperor, Chicksands Wood, 22nd July 2012. (ps not a bad photo considering it was taken using my phone!)
I am also in Luton and am constantly amazed at how much wildlife there is here try wigmore valey park for butterflies, wild flowers birds. glad you posted this.

A great site, as a town girl, I rarely get to see any countryside, and therefore wildlife. I didn't realise there was so much variety in Bedfordshire.
(Well, why would I with so much concrete about?)
